Booking at Lancaster County Prison

Lancaster County calls the start of custody a commitment. All newly committed people are assigned to the Intake Unit for up to 14 work days. The Classification Committee reviews legal status, age, bail, detainers, out-of-county charges, mental and physical condition, prior incarceration, behavioral record, monitoring, programming requests, and state parole violations. Maximum security is used for serious offenses, state or other-county inmates, serious discipline problems, and control concerns. Medium security is used for intermediate offenses.
